Danielle Etienne amuses with both delightful and disruptive imagery stitched together with dark and glittery yarn. Never short with curious surprise, she writes with power and syncopation of ancient and popular cultures. Her work draws on transformative experiences real and imagined.
Is it magickal realism? Not sure. It is iconoclastic, off-tempo, and sometimes beastly to the off guard.
She received a BA from Wayne State with a focus on playwriting. While at Wayne she received numerous grants and scholarships including the Heck-Rabi Fellowship, six Thompkins awards, and the Loughead-Eldridge Award. She also attended a residency at the MA Creative Writing Graduate Program at Eastern Michigan University.
Her work has been featured in Wayne Literary Review, Hobart Print, Dogzplot Magazine, Specter Magazine, Revolution John, and Honeysuckle Magazine. Her first one-act play was produced at The Studio Theater at Wayne State University.
